“I'd Like to Thank the Academy”

Two people died last night, to the same person. They both committed suicide because they were going to die to the Quota anyway. And speaking of the Quota, we surprisingly only had 14 people die from it. But upon closer inspection, it's not that odd. We had 20 or 30 people lined up to die from the Quota to begin with, but a good chunk of these people just committed suicide in the final few days when hope seemed out of grasp. They died regardless, so we don't mind.

Alright, now that we've gotten that over with, let's get to the real story. For this, we're going to have to think back a day or two to our final Trump Card challenge, “Lights, Camera, Re-Enaction.” Click here for a Youtube playlist of all submitted videos! Late in the afternoon of Thursday, the submission day, we were getting a little concerned because we had received 0 submissions. And then 1 came in. And then a whole onslaught. The end result was a pretty enjoyable collection of some remixed iconic movie scenes. Today, we'll discuss some that really caught our attention in one way or another. Justin: We were HOPING for something like this. Yes, yes, yes. When we thought of the Titanic scene, we were just crossing our fingers for that one person to bring his/her friend into a pool and shoot the scene there. Low-and-behold, you granted our wishes. Aside from the fact that Justin appeared to be happily looking around and admiring his surroundings while he was clinging on the Ryan, this was a beautiful video, and we could definitely see the effort that went into making it. Ryan's drowning scene was a tear-wrenching moment, although the “plunk” sound of the camera entering the water was oddly satisfying. Shivani: Not going to lie, we laughed our heads off as we watched this (sorry, Nikita). Felt Vine-esque, in a way. But poor Nikita. You have our heartfelt sympathy in having Shivani as an older sister. We can only imagine what it's like. But all things aside, this video is a pretty solid one in itself. Joshua: According to Tim Sireci (AKA the owner of the house at which they filmed), Joshua called late at night asking if he had a batman mask. Tim said sure and then went to take a shower, at which time Joshua asked if he and Kyle could film at Tim's house. Without waiting for a response, Joshua showed up with his star supporting actor and Tim, barely dressed, let them into his garage. Taking a wood scrap left over from the massive maze walls built in his backyard for Homecoming over the summer and providing Kyle with their own Halloween make-up, Tim helped them set up in their garage and served as their cameraman. And then Kyle went to work. We would like to name you our Spoons Breakout Performer of the Year. Well done, sir. Catherine: If you're looking for a video that closely followed the original, look no further. This one was a near perfect replica, with some clever substitutions. Not much to say here besides the fact that this was extremely cleanly edited (both video and audio) and so smooth and enjoyable to watch. Also, Esther, how did you manage to hold that face for so long? Your mouth literally looked like an upside-down “U” (which, we suppose, would make it an “n”). Esther: As the first video posted, it definitely set the bar high. Commentary was on point. Video was on point. Blood was on point (reminds us of that scene from Zootopia, which by the way is a surprisingly amazing movie with much more depth than you'd imagine from watching the trailer). Cat the Snake looked slightly in pain as she was being dragged across the Miller lawn and left a trail behind her, but we got the idea that Esther didn't give a shiitake mushroom about it. Jeffrey: If someone deserves to win the “Most Improved” award from the first video Immunity to now, it is this man. Think back to the primal screams of his “Just Do It” video. And now, this beautifully produced musical masterpiece. A genuine work of art. We thought that there was no way a submission that only altered video or audio (one or the other) would be a serious contender. But he proved us wrong, from his myriad of instrumental tracks all produced in-house to the quaint “gurgle gurgle” mumbled in the background. This man has evolved from a primitive caveman to a sophisticated composer. It is truly music to our ears.

Thank you all for a fantastic show. What a way to conclude our final Trump Card. We're going to miss these types of nights on Facebook, but fortunately we have all your videos saved so that we'll never forget. We're sure they'll resurface again some time in your distant futures. We'll make sure of it. And a side note, all 4 Trump Cards are still in play, at the moment. You best watch your back. Until next time!
